How we are paid

Last updated 14 October 2026

VPN for me is free to use and earns money from affiliate commissions. This page says exactly how, in line with the FTC's endorsement guides.

What an affiliate link is

When you click a “Visit” button and go on to buy a subscription, the provider may pay us a commission. The price you pay is the same either way. The link carries a tag so the provider knows the sale came from this site; it does not identify you to us.

Which links pay us

Every Visit button states underneath it whether it is an affiliate link or a plain link to the provider’s site. As of October 2026, affiliate links are live for a subset of the providers we list and more are added as programmes approve us; the rest are plain links. Mullvad and Windscribe have no affiliate programme at all and are listed and ranked exactly like the others.

Why commission can't move the ranking

The ranking is a scoring function that reads the catalogue of dated facts and your five answers. The affiliate terms for each provider are stored in a separate block that the scoring code never imports, and a test in the codebase swaps those terms and checks the ranking does not change. The terms are printed on each provider’s page as documentation. Details on the how it works page.

What we don't do

No sponsored placements, no “featured” slots, no coupon pop-ups, no countdown timers, no paid search on provider brand names, no email lists. We do not sell anything ourselves and we never see your payment details.
