7 of the 8 VPNs we track have servers in India. Proton VPN has the most, with 30 servers in 1 city. Legal to use, but a 2022 CERT-In rule requires VPN companies to keep user logs for five years, so most major providers removed their physical Indian servers and serve India from virtual locations. For streaming and travel in India our best fit is NordVPN at $3.49 a month on its 2 years + 3 months plan.
Server counts fetched from each provider’s own public list, latest 2026-10-12. Legal line checked 2026-10-12. How we rank.

| Mullvad | no servers in India as of 2026-10-12 | |||||
Each provider counts differently: NordVPN, Mullvad and Proton list servers; Surfshark lists locations; PIA lists WireGuard endpoints; ExpressVPN and CyberGhost publish cities only. “Virtual” means the IP is Indian but the machine is elsewhere, which is fine for streaming and worse for speed.
